The idea of some kind of English
version of my Polish web page has been
developing for two years or so. My international
contacts and European students at the University
have been valuable justification for making such
an additional effort. The problem was, of
course, the lack of time, also as a result of a
lot of effort connected with updates of the
Polish version of www.janc.pl. After May 1st,
2004, I think, and the EU enlargement, we all
got some
extra push, and here we go...
This is only a
beginning of the joy of work on the English
version of the page. It surely will develop,
time permitting, of course.
However, even now by clicking links at the
bottom of the page you can browse through some
material, like information on both the Institute
of Banking and the Centre for Education in
Banking and Insurance I am responsible for at
the Poznań University of Economics, a list of
recent publications, a text on Polish banking
system in the process of transformation, etc.
And especially, it is my pleasure to share my
joy with you -
on June 2nd, my book
in English was published on Modern Banking in
Transition Economies of Central and Eastern
Europe
(click
here to see the cover).
Needless to
say, however, that most of the resources are
available in Polish. I would like to use this
opportunity and to encourage non-Polish students
to make some effort to learn this beautiful yet
difficult language of almost 40 millions of
Europeans. Learning languages... The importance
of languages I have indeed been constantly
stressing to my Polish friends and encouraging
them to study English, German, French, and other
EU languages. For the sake of theses and papers
completed by Polish students' summaries and
abstracts, resumes, and Zussamenfassungen, have
been written already for many years now.
And, when
understanding some Polish, you could benefit
from many things... One of them would be
understanding the names of the days of the week
when my speaking hours at the University are. I
do my best to organize them twice a week, but
the hours tend to change. So, you can find the
updated message in the Polish folder "informacje".
You can also e-mail me at any time and the
ready-to-use form is available below.
So, enjoy the page and its resources. And, see
you...
P.S. One of the characteristic features of this
web address is the picture of a castle... The
original idea behind it was to reinterpret an
English proverb: my home is my castle. So, if
this was meant to be a homepage, a castle should
appear on the page. A bit complicated, but
pictures do change every week. Castle of the
week is:
